FAQs
How did this project originate?
Hudson Community Living was founded by Hudson families seeking more independent living opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. Together with community supporters, they created an intentional community where residents can live independently, build meaningful friendships, and remain connected to the Hudson community. Today, HCL is home to adults with developmental disabilities who enjoy independent living and a vibrant community centered around belonging, opportunity, and lifelong friendships.
Do you have availability?
HCL is currently at full capacity with 32 residents; however, we do maintain an active waitlist. As an age-in-place community, many of our residents view HCL as their long-term home, which means openings occur infrequently and there are no predictable timelines for unit availability. We are happy to add interested individuals to our waitlist and will provide updates as opportunities arise.
How much does it cost to live at Hudson Community Living?
Monthly rent ranges from $1,450to $1,650 per resident, depending on the unit available. Rent includes utilities, Wi-Fi, landscaping, snow removal, and twice-monthly apartment cleaning. Residents also access 7 days a week programming, meal plan option, and the Clubhouse.
Because Hudson Community Living is an independent housing community, residents are also responsible for personal expenses such as groceries, transportation, and any caregiving or support services they choose to receive.
How would you describe the community?
Hudson Community Living is an intentional neighborhood located in the heart of Hudson, Ohio, designed to provide adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to live independently while enjoying the benefits of a vibrant and connected community.
Situated on four acres near downtown Hudson, HCL is home to up to 32 residents living in cottage-style homes surrounded by walking paths, green space, gathering areas, and a community clubhouse. The clubhouse serves as the heart of the community, offering space for meals, activities, wellness programs, social events, and opportunities to build meaningful friendships.
Conveniently located within walking distance of downtown Hudson, the library, parks, shopping, and restaurants, HCL encourages residents to remain active and engaged in the broader community. Families, friends, and support providers continue to play an important role in residents’ lives, creating a community that promotes both independence and connection.
At HCL, residents enjoy the privacy of their own homes while experiencing joyful living with lifelong friends.
Will resident safety be ensured?
Safety at Hudson Community Living is achieved through a combination of community design, on-site support, and individualized services.
HCL has a full-time Community Director and Assistant Community Director who oversee daily operations and help ensure a safe, welcoming environment for residents. In addition, Resident Assistants (RAs) live on-site and provide an added layer of support, community engagement, and emergency response.
Residents who require personal care or one-to-one support services have the freedom to choose their own caregivers or provider agencies. These services are arranged independently by residents and families and may be funded through county, state, or waiver programs. HCL does not provide caregiving services directly.
The community’s design also promotes safety, with on-site staff presence, emergency response systems, walkable pathways, and a location directly across from Hudson Fire and EMS.
Finally, families remain an important part of community life. Through volunteer involvement, events, and regular engagement, residents benefit from a strong network of support while maintaining their independence.
How many residents will live in each building?
Most of the living units will have two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. One unit will have four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
How is the development financed?
Hudson Community Living is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by community volunteers, committees, and local leaders who are committed to creating opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities.
The community was made possible through the generosity of families, donors, foundations, businesses, and community partners who helped bring the vision of HCL to life.
Today, Hudson Community Living is sustained through a combination of resident rental income, charitable contributions, grants, and fundraising efforts. Rental fees help support the operation and maintenance of the community, while philanthropic support allows HCL to enhance programming, provide community-building opportunities, and assist residents facing financial hardship through dedicated assistance funds.
As a nonprofit organization, HCL remains committed to long-term sustainability while ensuring residents have access to a vibrant community focused on independence, belonging, and joyful living.
What more can you share about the residents?
Like any community, HCL residents are unique individuals with their own personalities, interests, talents, goals, and dreams. While each resident’s journey is different, they share a desire for greater independence, meaningful relationships, and the opportunity to be active members of their community.
Many of our residents grew up in Hudson and the surrounding communities, attended local schools, participated in extracurricular activities, held jobs, volunteered, and built friendships here. They are artists, athletes, employees, volunteers, advocates, and valued members of the community.
Residents come to HCL because they want the same things most adults want: a place to call home, friends to spend time with, opportunities to grow, and the freedom to make choices about their own lives. HCL provides an environment where they can continue developing independence while remaining connected to family, friends, and the broader community.
